Mayte MOLINA CAMACHO
Mayte joined the Surface Water group in February 2026 as a PhD researcher under the supervision of Prof. Ann van Griensven. She has a background in environmental and water resources engineering.
Her research "Multi-scale linkages between water quality and human health across Africa's biodiversity-water-food-health systems" explores how deteriorating water quality affects human health, food systems and aquatic biodiversity under global change.
The project combines hydrological and water-quality modelling, remote sensing and participatory approaches. It follows a multi-scale approach, from the Yala River Catchment and Lake Victoria Basin to the wider Nile River Basin. By connecting scientific information with local knowledge, her research aims to support more integrated and evidence-informed water management.
