Mayte MOLINA CAMACHO
Mayte joined the Surface Water group in February 2026 as a PhD researcher under the supervision of Prof. Ann van Griensven. She has a background in environmental and water resources engineering.
Her research "Impacts of Water Quality on Water Scarcity in the Water–Food–Health–Biodiversity
Nexus" aims to understand how declining water quantity and deteriorating water quality under global change interact to create water scarcity risks for drinking water supply, food systems, biodiversity conservation, and public health.
The project combines global modelling using SWAT+, remote sensing, and citizen science with regional case studies in Ukraine, South Africa and Belgium/France, focusing on river basins connected to UNESCO Biosphere Reserves, to analyze how different environmental and socio-political contexts shape water scarcity dynamics.
