Contribution to groundbreaking report on climate change and wildfire risk

We are delighted to announce that Seppe Lampe, Rosa Pietroiusti and Wim Thiery from our department contributed to a newly published report by the World Weather Attribution initiative titled "Climate change increased the likelihood of wildfire disaster in highly exposed Los Angeles area". This impactful rapid attribution study examines the role of climate change and other drivers in the devastating wildfires that erupted in Los Angeles in January 2025. The research highlights how human-induced climate change has increased both the likelihood and intensity of extreme fire weather conditions in Southern California, emphasizing the growing risks posed by climate change-driven wildfires.

Congratulations!
