Riverine ecosystem management

Sediment transport and storage in the southern Ethiopia rift valley: a case study on the Elgo and Shafe river systems.
In the Ethiopian highlands, water erosion is one of the most important forms of land degradation that trigger environmental and livelihood issues negatively affecting land resources. This research is mainly aimed to a better understanding of the spatial and temporal dynamics of sediment transport and storage and to link their variation to potential controlling factors in the catchment of two river catchments draining towards the Southern Ethiopian Rift Valley. Nature based solutions for erosion mitigation and adaption to climate change will also be investigated.
