SafeDune

Coastal dunes are our frontline defence for shielding communities from storms, buffering the impacts of sea level rise, and preserving vital ecosystems. However, as breaches in these natural barriers become more frequent, our coastlines grow more vulnerable. The SafeDune project is a cross-border collaboration aimed at transforming how we understand and manage dune breaches. By bringing together scientists, coastal managers, and policymakers, SafeDune will identify breach-prone areas and their evolution; assess coastal vulnerability; develop data-informed tools for decision-makers; and manage breaches not just as risks but as potential ecological opportunities for nature-based adaptation.
