Children’s exposure to climate extremes

The climate crisis poses a real and urgent threat to children and their rights. Save the Children has partnered with an international team of climate researchers to quantify the impact of extreme weather events on children as a result of climate change. The research focuses on disparities between generations and the widening inequality between high-income and low- and middle-income countries. Without immediate and drastic action to reduce emissions and limit global warming to 1.5°C, the most dangerous impacts of the climate crisis will burden children in low- and middle-income countries. The report emphasizes the need for ambitious climate action and adequate financing to protect the rights of current and future generations. Developed with the input of a Child Reference Group, the report highlights how climate change infringes on children's rights to life, education, and protection. The window of opportunity to make a difference for children is closing rapidly, necessitating urgent action from global leaders to mitigate the climate crisis and safeguard children's well-being.
