In this project, scientists from the Laboratoire de Glaciologie of the Université libre de Bruxelles (ULB) and the Department of Water & Climate of the VUB are looking for very old ice in Antarctica. More specifically, by combining modelling efforts, remote sensing observations, and fieldwork, these scientists will try to identify locations with very old close to the Princess Elisabeth Station (Belgium’s Antarctic research station). This old ice will be collected both from the surface of blue ice areas, and at shallow depths through drilling efforts.
